Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document all the things that help keep my sanity as a stay at home mom to a “difficult” baby.

Paint in a Bag

This is another bag activity (click here for a tissue paper bag) that is fun for your baby’s senses and helps with his sensory-motor foundation. It is so, so easy and, honestly, lots of fun. I don’t remember the last time I used washable paint, and it got me so excited to begin finger painting with Harris when he is ready.

What You Need:

-A Zip-Loc bag: I use the quart size or sandwich size. The gallon size is doable, but a little unnecessarily large and will require you to use more paint, but definitely doable if that’s all you have at home right now.

-Washable Paint: I bought Crayola Washable Project Paint at Target because it came in lots of colors, and I know Harris loves different colors. It was only $4.99 and you get over 20oz of paint.

That’s it!

What You Do:

So simple. Choose four distinct paint colors. You can get creative and think about how the colors will blend. I used red, blue, green, and yellow first and it all blended to an ugly brown. Then, I used only yellow and green and it blended to a nice blue. Once you choose your colors, carefully squeeze about two to three tablespoons of each color into the bag. I make a square of each right next to each other and on top of each other to create a larger square.

How to Play:

This is best used at tummy time, but can certainly be used during high chair time or if he is sitting in your lap in front of a table. Put the ziploc bag in front of him and you may need to demonstrate how to move the paint around at first. He will probably like to feel the paint between his fingers and enjoy seeing the colors blend together. It may be difficult at first for his hands to reach it, but that is part of him learning how to use his arms and hands. Always give him some space to try, but if he seems bored because he can’t move the paint around, definitely do it for it for a while. He will start to get it quickly. It may just take a few bags of you doing it, but by the fifth bag or so, he will begin doing it on his own depending on his age. Regardless, he will love seeing the colors move about and love feeling the paint between his fingers. Comment below and tell me what kind of sensory bags you and your little one love to use!
